COSPPac2 Highlights – SPP

Seasonal Prediction Project – SPP Enhancing Climate and Ocean Monitoring and Prediction Services. The Seasonal Prediction Project supports the delivery of seasonal and inter/intra-seasonal (or within season) climate and ocean predictions and adds value to climate (e.g., drought) and ocean (e.g., coral bleaching) monitoring.


Highlights over COSPPac2 for the Seasonal Prediction Project include:

  • Extension of the Bureau of Meteorology ACCESS-S climate modelling system to the Pacific.

  • Integrated ACCESS-S into national climate and ocean bulletin, EAR Watch, and other tailored products.

  • Published the Climate Change in the Pacific Report 2022 for 15 countries.

  • Continued support for products/services like the Monthly COSPPac Bulletin, Ocean and Climate Outlook Forum, and Pacific Climate Change Data Portal.


The 15 Pacific Island countries participating in the project are the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. More information at
